The Common Buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium to large bird of prey who is found in most of Europe extending into Asia.
The plumage is usually of shades of brown with a necklace of pale feathers. The Common Buzzard breeds in woodlands, usually on the fringes, but favours hunting over open land. It eats mainly small mammals and carrion.
Buzzards mate for life and males perform a ritual aerial display before the beginning of spring, rising high in the sky to turn and plummet downward in a spiral, twisting and turning as he comes down.
